DRSW Index
Documentary Relations of the Southwest
Fantastic index run by the Arizona State Museum!
The archaeological research and collections of ASM provide the 'prehistory' before written accounts. DRSW provides the research tools and finding aids to the written record that began with the arrival of the Spanish explorers in the 1530's. The 1500 microfilm reels of documents include the diaries of explorers and reports of missionaries and soldiers, from the first written accounts of contact with indigenous peoples in the 16th Century to the Mexican declaration of independence from Spain in 1821. This covers Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and northern Mexico: all of what was northern New Spain.
The Albuquerque Journal Newspaper - Bernalillo County's leading newspaper. Death notices published prior to March 1, 1998, may be available from the Journal library for a fee at (505) 823-3490. Obits online from 1998 forward.
The Albuquerque Tribune Newspaper - Albuquerque afternoon newspaper
The Special Collections Library The Special Collections Library of the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Library System is the largest public collection of genealogy records in New Mexico. Full genealogy library, complete with microfilm tapes containing census records, and church records (baptism, marriage, death), plus much, much more.

There is so much to tell about the CSWR materials - just the Spanish and Mexican ones alone would take all day - and there is much that would help researchers. For example, some valuable Spanish materials are in the France Vinton Scholes MSS Collection and the collection of photostat documents from the Archivo General de las Indias (AGI), the Archivo General de la Nacion (AGN), and from other archives in Spain and Mexico that are at this archive. Many documents from the Spanish era stored in the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe were destroyed in the Pueblo Revolt, or tossed out under the U.S. regime, but "copies" of many NM documents had been sent to the King in Spain and the Viceroy in Mexico. Also many on the history of Mexico and Yucatan. At the present time there is no really good guide or index at CSWR. Although a few are transcribed, the majority remain in the original Spanish.
